Privacy Policy
Skyclock does not collect, transmit, store or share any personal data. There is no account to create, no server to talk to, and no analytics of any kind. This policy exists to say so precisely, and to describe the one place your settings are kept: your own computer.
The short version
- The extension makes no network requests whatsoever.
- We operate no servers that receive your data, because the extension never sends any.
- There is no analytics, telemetry, tracking, advertising or fingerprinting, first- or third-party.
- There are no accounts, so we never ask for an email address, name or payment details.
- Your chosen places and preferences are stored locally on your device and never leave it.
What the extension stores, and where
Skyclock saves your settings using the browser's chrome.storage.local
API. That data lives on your own computer, inside your browser profile. It is not
synced to us, and it is not synced between your devices.
Specifically, it stores:
- the places you have added — city name, country and IANA time zone identifier;
- whether you prefer 12-hour or 24-hour time;
- whether places are sorted west-to-east or in an order you arranged by hand.
That is the complete list. Removing the extension from your browser removes this data with it.
How time zones are calculated
Skyclock ships with a built-in database of roughly 1,500 cities and their time
zone identifiers, bundled inside the extension itself. All time and daylight-saving
calculations are performed on your machine by the browser's own built-in
Intl internationalisation API. No location service, IP geolocation or
time server is contacted, which is also why the extension works with no internet
connection at all.
Permissions the extension requests
Skyclock requests a single permission, storage, which allows it to save
the settings described above on your device. It also declares a new-tab override,
which is what lets it replace the new tab page. It requests no host permissions,
so it has no ability to read or modify any website you visit.
This website
The skyclock.io website is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, embeds no third-party scripts, fonts, images or analytics, and asks for no personal information. Our hosting provider may keep standard server access logs, such as IP addresses and requested URLs, for the ordinary purposes of operating and securing the service. We do not use those logs to build profiles of visitors.
The home page carries a live demo, which is the extension itself running in your
browser rather than a recreation of it. It behaves the same way: all of its time
zone maths is done on your machine, and it sends nothing anywhere. Like the
extension, it remembers the places you add and whether you chose 12- or 24-hour
time — on the website these are kept in your browser's
localStorage for this site, because there is no extension storage to
use. That data stays on your device, is never transmitted to us, and is not a
cookie and not used to identify or track you. Clearing site data for skyclock.io
removes it, and the demo starts fresh.
Children
Skyclock is not directed at children, and because it collects no personal data at all, it does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Data protection law gives individuals rights over their personal data, including rights of access, correction and erasure. Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to retrieve, correct or delete. The settings held on your own device are entirely under your control and can be cleared at any time by removing the extension or clearing your browser's extension data.
If you nonetheless believe we have handled personal data about you improperly, you have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Ours is the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD) in Portugal, and you may also complain to the authority in the country where you live.
Changes to this policy
If Skyclock ever changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and change the date above. Should a future version ever collect or transmit data, that would be described here plainly and in advance, and would be optional.
